14 Women Rule Europe ... Liz Truss Is The Latest Of Them

Women that rule Europe

The election of Liz Truss, 47, as the new British Prime Minister, raises the number of women ruling Europe to 14 women who are currently serving as president or prime minister in the old continent.

Truss is described as a "political chameleon", with a history of shifting views, as she has gone from a radical advocator of the abolition of the British monarchy to the flag-bearer of the right-wing Eurosceptic Conservative Party.

Institutions control

Professor of political sociology, Said Sadiq, said that in Europe, governance is linked to institutions and not individuals, and recently, women have become more influential than ever before, opening the way for them to work in important fields, and granting them complete freedom in most countries of the world, especially after proving their ability to compete in various disciplines.

Sadiq added in an interview with "Sky News Arabia" that we have previous models that have proved unparalleled competencies, such as Margaret Thatcher, who won the Falklands War in 1982 against Argentina, and won three legislative elections, and also Angela Merkel, who became the first woman to hold the position of chancellor, and left the government by her decision. Although her star was still on the rise since she took power in 2005 and was known for her strength of character in the face of world leaders, as well as Golda Meir in Israel.

He pointed out that in our time, there are women who have attracted the attention of the world, as is the case with the New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, who has won international acclaim and great support from human rights and feminist institutions and organizations in dealing with the crises of extremism, the Corona pandemic and others.

For the criticism that was addressed to the Prime Minister of Finland about the noisy parties, he said that it is not strange and was not directed at her as a woman, but rather at her position, which is the same thing that caused criticism of Boris Johnson and was one of the reasons for his resignation and the election of Liz Truss to lead the British government.

Truss is the third woman to head the British government after the "Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher, who was in power between 1979 and 1990, and Theresa May, who ruled from 2016 to 2019.
